Hi,

I'm very new to this diet although I have followed diets successfully for a long time. It's been the usual story though that as I have got older it has been harder and harder so this diet seemed the answer to my prayers! I have been following the menu plan rigourously but my weight is creeping UP!!!!! I'm not very tall (5ft) and want to lose 3 - 5 kg which doesn't sound much but would be 1 or 2 dress sizes for me. Has anyone else followed the diet or had similar problems - I'm nearly at my wit's end and get very depressed about it.

HELP!!!!!!

Yours, tearing my hair out

Firstly welcome CarolynN. Sorry about the delay in answering but I have not been here for a couple of weeks. Life gets in the way sometimes.

Now are you working by yourself on the diet, or do you have assess to a class/online support.

The diet does work, but everything is relative. I would like to offer a few things for you look at if that is alright.

First thing that comes to mind is maybe portion sizes. We are conditioned to think that we need x amount, when in actual fact we need much less.

I assume that you having carb free nights if you are following the MASD.

Exercise, with a smaller amount to lose, exercise becomes even more important, so ask are you getting enough.

Let me know about these things and if it is none of these and you don't have any other support perhaps we here can help you a bit more.

With no idea of what you are actually eating and how much, it is a bit harder to help out, so if you are feeling brave, maybe you could post what you eat for a couple of days and we can look at it. I am happy to post my diet if you like, in fact it is often a good thing to do.

Hi Kiwismum

Thank you for replying and for all your help. I think that maybe last week I was feeling a bit down as this week the weight seems to be shifting a bit. (I've developed a horrible cold so maybe that's the reason for the gloomy feelings). I'm not expecting huge weight loss and so just a couple of hundred grammes at a time is enough to keep me motivated. I have been following the meal planner in the book and trying very hard to only eat the portions suitable for band A - in fact that's not too difficult as the meals are very satisfying. As far as exercise goes I do an hour's work out, an hour and a half of hot yoga and an hour of ordinary yoga every week and when the weather is better we go mountain biking and sometimes play golf so I hope that will be enough.
I'm trying to do this on my own at home (my husband is very supportive) as I find it difficult to get to a class but may do that if I feel I need that support. Having the forum is great though as that means there is always someone to talk to.
Definitely feeling happier about the weight loss now but will keep you posted on how it goes.
Cheers
Carolyn

Hey CN glad you are feeling better and that the weight is shifting a bit now. Often we can have unrealistic expectatons, but you sound like you are being very sensible with it all.

I too am close to my goal and it would be very easy to tell myself not to worry about the last few kilos, but then I know it will creep on easier if I don't put the extra effort in.

I have never been to a class, but did do the online program for a while, which was great for getting me on track in the beginning. Now I do it by myself, but have developed some tried and true habits and recipes that I know I can count on.

Hi Kiwismum,

Sorry I haven't been in touch for ages but thought you would be interested to know that I am finding the diet FANTASTIC!!!!! I have really got into it now and whilst I wouldn't say the weight is falling off, it is steadily going down and actually that is really what I want. I have already managed to get into several of the clothes that were too small and everything else is much more comfortable. I am a complete convert and am telling all my friends about it! Some of them find the name a little off-putting which is unfortunate!

Do hope you are getting on OK and also reducing.

Cheers

CarolynN

PS I have lost about 2.5 kilos now!!!! My husband is following it as well and of course he has lost even more - but that's just men!!!!!

Hi CarolynN,
with some time to spare before lunch was just looking through the past letters and noticed yours..you are doing well!  Like you I am not very tall (153 cm whatever that is) and am at the stage of only having a few kilos to lose now.  I think it was easier to come down from 85 ks to my currant weight than it is to shed these last few kilos!  Was encouraging to read that you are succeeding.
Wish I could get my husband onto a weight loss plan but you have to be in the right mind set I think, if you are interested or dont want to...well, its up to him... Sad
Keep up the good work... Smile

Hi Carolyn N, Good to hear from you again.

Well done on your loss, and for getting your other half involved as well. That is one thing about these recipes, they are very family friendly so it doesn't feel like a diet at all.

Keep up the good work and if you feel like it come and join us for some friendly chatter in the lounge.

Hi CarolynN,
I missed your post as well!!!  I don't know how.  Must have got interrupted by something that day.  oh yeh, I was buying some books on Trade Me.

glad you and your husband are doing this together, it just makes it easier if both are eating the same.

Keep up the great work and let us know how your weigh ins are - they inspire us.

Hi everyone

Sorry I've been away for so long. What with e-mails, Facebook - oh and ordinary day-to-day living I don't often seem to have much time to get on the forum!!!

Everything is going well at the moment although we have had a bit of a stagnant period. We had a few days on Gt Barrier and have had lots of pot-luck dinners since we got back but no real damage done and we just need to get our heads straight again. We went to the Designers Garage Sale at NZ Fashion Week (won a pair of tickets!!!) and had a great time. There's an incentive if ever there was one to keep losing weight!

We've also just heard that we are going to have another grandchild! That will be 3 - I love being a Grandmother. So despite the horrible weather life is pretty good at the moment.

Well I really must go and start the day - though it's so dark now it feels like the night-time!!

Hope all's well with all of you,

Carolyn
