I can't cope with weekends!  I know they are my down fall.  I just started KISS yesterday and are wanting it to last.  I can stay fairly well within my limits on workdays - everything is to a routine then, but on weekends anything can happen.

Often we have a church dinner which is self serve.  Although the food is relatively healthy I can't stop myself eating too much of it.  I need tips on how you control yourself without feeling deprived.

My weekend treat is a cafe coffee (with or without friends) and more often than not the cake goes with it.  I know I will feel like I HAVE to have that cake.  Am I better to treat myself say like once a month or totally go cold on it?  Or maybe limit it to days were I have done a really good workout?  I don't know - What do you girls do?

Please help me out - I think it may be only my brain telling me to do these different habits but lack the tip and so far the will power to say "NO" to social situtations that I find myself in every weekend.

Firstly Welcome, it is good to talk to you.

I can so relate to the weekend thing, it is my downfall too, but only because I let it be.

Now, as you do the program for longer you will get a better feel for how each thing you can have at your group meal. Until then try to have as much of the protein as the size of the fleshy part of you hand, add to that one handful of a starch unless you are going carb free for that meal, and then a double handful of veges or salad, with only a small amount of dressing.

If you fail at that, don't beat yourself up, just climb back on the wagon and carry on. One meal will not blow the whole thing.

Now have a look at your weekly indulgences and if you are thinking you are going to have that cake, save one of these to cover it. But remember that the servings are usually large so only eat half of it, and enjoy every bite of it then move on. For your coffee, count it as a milk serving for that day.

There you go, you can have your cake and eat it too, you just have to plan for it.

Hi Lisa,
Life goes on you know and we don't want to totally deprive ourselves and I agree with what Kiwimum says but I do have limits on what I usually do - please note the "usually" - sometimes we just aren;t able to stop ourselves and when we don't, we have to make the next thing we eat "programme food and quantity" and move on.

In all reality I don't think a cafe coffee will kill your diet (though I heard the calorie count for some Starbucks drinks a couple of weeks ago and they can equal virtually a whole days food allowance!!!)  I am lucky I have never been a big coffee drinker and coffee out is too strong for me.  Though I do succomb to the odd trim hot chocolate with no lashings of cream or choc on top!!!  Hwever, what I would do, if I really am having the coffee is count it as a couple of milks and daily indulgences and if I have to have the cake, go for one that looks "least lethal" and make it as 2 of my weekly indulgences.

As Carolyn will say - there are 21 meals in a week and 21 snacks too - one meal off track isn't the end of the world.  I try and make "the best choices" when I eat out and away from home and say "wow I did pretty good with this" and then move on.  No point dwelling on it and beating yourself up.  You want to get over that on this programme.  You still have to have a life.  It also boils down to "what do you really want more right now".  A cake or a weight loss.  If you don't go up, its a good week, if you lose its even better.
Actually I remember I used to have tea quite often through the day, just so I could have "the biscuit" that went with it.  I eventually cut most of that out just by not having ordinary tea but having water with lemon or raspberry tea or soemthing that I didn't associate biscuit/cake to go with it!!

Anyway, I am rambling, sorry, but let us know how you get on.  Keeping a detailed diary sheet and seeing all the "good" you have done in the week is a great thing - but you have to be honest and put the "not so good" on too so you can see just how often the not so good are "sneaking" in.  Hope something helps anyway!

Thanks for replying - I enjoyed my weekend coffee on Saturday and weigh in today was a loss of 500grams!!   Smile  I enjoying the program so far - Carolyn has nearly emailed me every day with a few tips which is great and motivating for me.  I blew it a bit on Sunday as I went to a friend (Who is a very good cook) for a roast dinner (@ mid day) and had an apple pie and icecream for pudding.  I decided that it wasn't the end of the world but when I got home my grandparents asked me for tea, so had double helpings - WAAAAA!!!!

Anyway - it's full steam ahead for the next week and I guess ther's a whole lot of new KISS recipes that are good for me out there waiting to be tried!

Good Luck to both of you. Wink

Great work Lisa on the 500 grams loss.  Thats great.  I am sure you are back on track now after your roast dinner etc.  Thats life.  Its the getting back on track.  I feel a bit like a hypocrit today saying that!!!  But we shan't go there.
I am back on track now!  Keep up the great work.

Well done on your loss Lisa.

Life does sometimes get in the way, but you have already adopted the right attitude to it, so more power to you.

It is good that you are enjoying the program, it will help you to stick to it. Some of the recipes will become favourites that you will want to eat even when you are no longer trying to lose so it is all good.

Keep up the good work

Hi Lisa

It sounds as though you are getting to grips with the weekend situation (won't call it a problem - weekends are too precious for that). As far as the Church lunch what I do in those cases is I just have a very small spoonful of everything but try to skip anything that looks too creamy and maybe only have one carb choice. I always feel that the worst thing is to look around at everyone else and feel that I am missing out. I also try very hard not even look at the puddings unless there is a fruit salad.

I think the important thing is to keep feeling good about every little success - even if it just saying "no" to the second helping! Ha ha. for me if I start to think I'm failing or not coping everything starts to go downhill. So just keep focussing on the successes and enjoy the diet.

Well I'm rambling now as well!!!

Anyway - keep at it and good luck.

Your not rambling. That is a very good attitude you have there, and a very good strategy for coping with those unavoidable gatherings.

Well done Thumbs Up
