Welcome Jacquie, I hope we can give you the support you need Smile

Please don't beat yourself up, what is done is done, and now you are on the road to caring for yourself.

Having health problems make the whole thing that much harder, but it also shows how important it is to look after ourselves. So instead of berating yourself look at it that you need to care for you in order to do anything for anybody else.

Many of us would rather help someone else so as not to have to address our own problems, but that will only work for so long and then we have to step up put ourselves first for a while.

You are not alone and we can all hold hands and make this journey together.

Hi Jacquie,
Welcome to our little community. I started on this journey about 2 months ago and from 103kg, so I know exactly how you are feeling. I'm off to a good start, having lost around 8kgs so far. This Kiss program is very realistic and the recipes are normal food so you don't have to feel like you're dieting, just changing those bad eating habits instead. I hope we can help you too. Everyone on here is very friendly and supportive.
Any questions just ask...someone on here always has a good answer...

Hi Jacquie,
Just a quick note to wish you well...I find the kiwi kiss recipes very family friendly (even with my fussy lot) and the plan one that suits every day living.
I understand a little of what you feel..I often wonder  why I did what I did to get to my 84.5..I knew better but the good thing is it does come off again.. with the kk plan and the support you find here I am sure you will find the support you need to make the weight loss journey easier... Smile

Hi Jacquie,

First of all good for you for coming back, and for buying the book.

Now I know you know this already, but there is no magic bullet. Now I will tell you why KK works for me when I follow it, and then you should consider what will work best for you.

I like this plan because it is based on ordinary everyday food that I was already eating. I gives me guidelines as to how much I should be eating(which most plans do), and doesn't ban outright any foods at all. I personally have never been to ww so I can't comment on that, but I do know a lot of people who have done several other advertised plans, and quite frankly some of them I wouldn't touch.

Because there are no special foods or meal replacements on the KK plan, it is easy to develop it into your family and social life, as well as solving the transition problem onto maintenance once the weight is gone.

Now let me give you an example based on my own personal experience. The very first I started I got up in the morning(it was winter) and put a beef casserole into the crockpot. Somewhere around morning tea time, I decided to join the online plan. Now I had a dilemma since I already had dinner started. So I went through the recipes and there was a beef casserole that was almost identical to the one I was planning to have anyway. So I could follow the portion sizes and still have my casserole.

Now it is said that it is often harder to lose in winter than summer, but that winter I lost 7kgs and still ate the same types of foods. The recipes are great and my fussy family will eat them too so no double cooking. I also find that having the books gives me lots of choice in recipes, and so makes it a little easier too.

So my advise is to base whatever you end up choosing to as close to what you like to eat for meals now, and start there. Cut down on any high calorie snacks and watch your portion sizes. With your health issues it is important not to make a great big change and to be guided by your doctor, but I would think that anything that has you eating good healthy everyday food can help you a lot.

Hi Jacquie,

I never had a weight problem til we bought a general store (and all the goodies that went with it) and my weight sky rocketed, weight watchers did help me and I trimmed back to 8 stone but as we sold that business and bought a confectionery one the problem returned.  Thank goodness that business is now in the past and my weight is more or less back under control.  These days I find I can use my ww cook books and incorporate them in the kiwi kiss programme (hope its okay to say this here Smile)...for me both programmes had similarities...both worked...as long as I had the mindset to control myself..does that make sense?
Both programmes gave me a good basic plan to work with, every day foods that suited a family situation.  I like the availability of the kk recipes and the helpful ladies on this panel.  Whatever you decide I do hope its successful for you.

Perhaps you are over thinking it. It doesn't have to be, nor should it be hard. Once you get into the swing of it it is very easy.

Start by planning your meals one day at a time, and if something goes wrong for one meal, just move on to the next meal.

You are only one meal away from being back on plan, Carolyn would say "just do the damn diet", and that IS all there is to it.

Actually since you have quite a bit to lose, just make smaller goals to begin with. Start with just getting on plan and aim for 1kg every two weeks, and then reassess after the first two weeks.

Don't forget to come and talk to us often as it does help to keep you on track.

I am also assuming that you are not in a place where you can go to classes.

Hi Jacquie,
I can relate to having to watch the dollars.  I think the simplest way to thinking of weight loss is  'food eaten must be balanced with energy output'.    Is it possible for you to include a daily walk in your routine?  I found this the easiest and cheapest form of exercise.  Add that to basic well cooked meals and things seemed to fall into place.

Like Kiwismum I found the small amount of weight at a time approach the best.  I think if we aim at just a kilo or even five to start its not so overwhelming.  Looking forward to hearing how things are going for you.

Good on you Jacquie,  I find if I have my meals planned I have much more chance of staying on track.

1.5kg per week is an awful lot, you could do that occasionally but not every week. I would think that you would run into problems along the way, and would certainly put is all back on fairly quickly once yo came off the diet.

I work on the theory that if I average .5 kg a week then I am on the right track. Sure it would be good to wake up in the morning and have the weight all gone, but we do live in the real world, so slow and steady is a better way.
