Merry Christmas ladies.

If you are anything like me you will not be thinking too much about KISSing over this time. I was doing great until hubby started his holiday at the beginning of the week, and now I have slid right backwards. I will worry about that after christmas.

We have our first christmas dinner tomorrow with family who will be away for christmas, so we will have one before they go. Then another on the big day. My Egg Nog has been requested this year and there is nothing low cal. about that.

Anyway have a good one, I will be around and probably round if you want to chat.

Well here I am back on the site again....  Decided a new year and a new start.  Nice to see some familiar names are still here.
I am in the throws of packing up the house..  We haven't actually sold yet (it's not even officially on the market!) but we have had 8 enquiries about buying the farm. So I have decided it is more than time I got all the clutter out of my life and off my butt.  Wink
I have decided to let myself have a day off on Fridays as I have lunch out with the girlfriends then and we try lots of different restaurants so feel the it fun to try new foods and blow the calories.

Welcome Back PB, you sound like you are in for a busy year.

Eating at a resturant does not mean you have to blow the calories, but sometimes it is easier the rest of the week if you allow yourself a set day for a treat. That is why I do chocolate night once a week, then I don't have to eat it any other night.

I haven't set any resolutions this year, because they would just be the same as other years, so one day at a time for me.

My baby is turning 13 on Monday so she is having a big sleepover movie party this weekend. We are taking them to a gold class movie on Saturday and then a big afternoon tea on Sunday when the families come to pick them up and we will cut the cake then.

I don't get too carried away on Fridays but I have to admit to sometimes having a dessert if it appeals to me and enjoying every mouthful.
Just been out sweeping the swimming pool and have discovered that the frogs didn't mind the chlorine and have hatched tadpoles by the hundreds....Grrrr. Normally they don't hatch.
Was an awful shock to get snow on Sunday night and hear we might be in for more this weekend....Yuck it is supposed to be summer.

It is good that you are not getting carried away PB.

Not good getting snow in January, I wonder if we will have a proper summer or whether we will just go straight to autumn

Proper summer, KM?  whats that?  I dont think we will get one this year...must admit the coler weather is great for walking, sleeping and gardens..not so good for people on holiday Smile   Some mornings are so chilly!

Do hope everyone is having a good New Year.  For me its the same as the last busy...sadly lost two of our four footed freinds last year..this year must be better!  and food wise, do have to get a grip on things!  This mindless silly late night eating has to stop!

Do intend to be busier with gardens so that might help Smile

If Nans out there hello and how is your year going?

Sorry to here your bad news from last year Yvonne, it is hard when a special friend is gone.

I hope this year will be better for you.

I have to admit that I did gain quite a bit over the holidays, but I am back on track now so will be looking for good results over the next few weeks. I know this plan works and I am hoping to make it an automatic habit this time around. Maybe we need to get back to talking to each other about what we are eating again to help us all stay on track.

Big change for us this year, Miss Fussy will no longer be homeschooled, but is instead starting school tomorrow. I don't know whether to be happy or sad.

Be happy KM, so many new experiences for you both...I do hope she enjoys herself.  At the school I work at (part time) we have over 40 new entrants!  A lot for a small rural school..

I too gained over the holidays, no ones fault but my own, am now having a hard job to get back into the routine of cutting down and eating sensibly.  I agree with you, diet plans (good ones) do work but unfortunately we have to stick to them Smile

I start the day well but often by evening all good intentions are gone.  Now with getting back into my little job means an extra walk a day and no afternoon tea so that will help.  I have to plan meals that are easy to prepare and cook when I get in at approx 4.45...

Perhaps getting back into our chatting habit will help strengthen the resolve!  I would like to get rid of/give away/shed/ lose one stone.  Will settle for half a stone...dont know why I am thinking stones instead of kilos perhaps it sounds less!

Hope all goes well for your daughter tomorrow, will pop back tomorrow night and find out how your days have been...will be a  little strange for you too...

I am sure she will be fine today. She is going to a very small private school that will keep us broke all year. But her best friend and my cousins daughters all go there. The public school here is not so great so this will much better for her.

I often have the problem of snacking during the day, but do it more when Mr Fussy is home. This year he is spending at least three days a week away so I don't have to factor him into the food mix.

In the weekend I found "The Carb Lovers" book so brought it as I wanted to read since I heard about it last year. I was unimpressed in general and according to this book I should be the size of a stick already. What I have done instead is started to follow the set plan in the MASD book. I was pretty good last week, but this week (OK it is only tuesday morning) but so far I have stuck to the plan one hundred percent. Looking forward to my smoked salmon sandwich today.

Yesterdays dinner called for carrots and cauliflower on the side. Didn't want to pay $5.00 for a cauli so got one of those crosses with Broccoli instead ( can't remember what they are called), it was only $2.00. Anyway I made a really nice salad with that and the carrots, and a few other things, it was really filling and very tasty. We get to finish it tonight with our chicken stirfry. Yum

Thats great news KM, I am sure there will be days that arent so happy but..thats life isnt it...hope the happy ones last a long time.

Years ago I tried the Atkins diet and then enjoyed the recipes from??? cant remember even though I have two recipes books in the pantry...but after a while missed the bread etc...

Snacking during the day isnt a problem, its evenings for me  (Boredom?)  saw some wonderful purple broccoli in the veg shop a while back..if the fresh product is too expensive I look at frozen...

Just watching the sparrows enjoying a broccoli thats gone to seed, big towering plant, must have caterpillars cause the sparrows where having a great time Smile

Must away and finish a few jobs that need doing, bye for now.

Purple broccoli, yes I have grown that in the past, it is so much fun having food with a difference.

I have been looking forward to tonights meal all week - Smoked Salmon, Bacon and Fettucine. I am so looking forward to this.

Must get some more lettuce in the garden, my ones are in peak production, but that won't last too much longer so if I get some in this week then I will have a continuous supply.

HEY!!!!  It is me again Embarrassed  Haven't been looking at the forum for a while as nothing was happening so lovely to see chatting again...I think a great idea to chat as we NEED each other as long as we are positive.

Well, had a huge gain over the past 3 months after the dog attacks, but am back to it.  Just reverted to the old comfort eating...had a bit of PTSD and kind of fell apart.

Doc did blood tests and we both have high cholesterol...mine "borderline" dh's HIGH...he is on the drugs, I asked for a reprieve to get back on track...just getting used to my bp meds so didn't want another lot!  Getting older sure ain't for sissies!  He did allow as how we both may just have a family propensity.

We had a wonderful holiday away in Taupo with our Oz son, daughter in law and grandchildren plus our other son and his partner...did a lot of walking and nearly got my courage back, so am back to walking here too.  Yes BP is at last down to acceptable, so an advance.

Having to change our diets a bit (the past 3 months has been a disaster) and am being really careful with it all...my trouble is I have been dieting for 50 years (swear words deleted ;-) and for all that time I have been either on a diet or REALLY OFF one! The dog attacks have given me much time to think and it is time I grew up and stopped this nonsense!  Angel

Watch this space.. Yes. There will be less of me in it!

Cheers!

Great to be back.

Hey Nan, nice to see you back.

I know what you mean by all on or all off. I think it is a flaw in our thinking that we believe we will be missing out it we stay on a diet. Now here is my do what I say not what I do theory (although I am trying to do it). Don't go on a diet, just change our everyday eating to one that is more sensible.

I like this plan because I have no forbidden foods and my family of fussies likes the recipes. Therefore I am trying to now adopt a new attitude to food. I am not dieting, I am just changing what normal looks like.

Anyway I hope your and your hubby can sort your health soon

Oh and if you haven't yet tried the Smoked Salmon fettucine on p 179 of the MASD book then I can say your are missing out Wink

Hey KM...lovely to hear back from you!  Your  "do what I say" is exactly what I am doing too...enough of the "diet"...just be sensible.........with K/KISS we all know what is good and what isn't so should have no excuses not to eat well and healthfully.  The "all or nothing" Nan is gone!

We do have to change some aspects though for the cholesterol, but easy enough......

Have tried the smoked salmon fettuccine but used smoked chicken as I was feeling a little impecunious that week..have since tried it again a few times with the smoked chicken...it is good indeed.

Hope your daughter at "real" school is still doing well. A big change for you both.  Yes

Take good care.

Nan.
