Although I always have books on the go, it is not often I read something that warrents comment, and gives me pause to think.
Yesterday I got the first in the Ringing Cedar series - Anastasia
I must say if you are looking for a book that will challenge your beliefs without in your face this id definatley a thought provoking book. I am looking forward to getting the rest of the series.
Anyone else read it.

I too belong to a bookclub, but ours is different in that we have a topic a month and have to read a book of choice on that topic. It works really well and it is amazing how many different books there are on things that you wouldn't expect. This month was a biography or autobiography (not NZ). We all enjoyed our books and I will be reading several of the others. Next month is Humour. Will have to think about that one.

Hmm, have never belonged to a book club but as I volunteered at our library and ended up working there for about 3 years "on call" but was working virtually full time for a year my reading is diverse. I got into so many new authors and chose by books "by their covers" without reading the covers before I started. I ditched heaps of them, but found lots of new authors. Am currently revisiting Greg Iles who is a murder/thriller type writer. His first book I read was 24 hours (think thats right) and I couldn't put it down. I've read two in the last couple of weeks and haven't been able to put them down either - the current one is um, something Evil, can't remember the first word!!

Mmmm I had forgotten Greg Isles. I like you read one of his in a matter of two days. Love that type of book. I am currently reading Stephen Booth, similar type of book. Have had several out of the library. I have to admit ot reading anything and everything. Some I finish some I don't. Life is far too short to read bad books.

Have never been able to get into D Gabladon - have tried so many times! Think I have read one Stephen Booth, but will get another. I like James Patterson - and he wrote some really lovely ones Suzannes letters for Nicholas and a couple more with titles like that which I have seen made into movies, but he also has some murder mysteries which are great. His books are really easy read and I can read one in a day - but I really enjoy them.
Havent read a Jean Auels, but maybe its time I tried.am an avid reader but my eyes have suffered for it. I have to sneak into Large Print if they have. Oh, love the JD Robb "death" series, must be due for a new one!!!

Well off to the library with a lovely list of new authors to try out, Thank you very much all for your reccommendations. I am currently reading a Tess Gerritson booK. I have read a few of hers and enjoy them, very much murder mystery, thriller type books that keep you guessing until the end.

Ciao tutti, I've been in the UK for a few days to farewell a good friend who is heading back to NZ. At the airport I bought 3 books, and am reading one of them. It's called 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by the same Afghani writer who did 'The Kite Runner' - Khaled Hosseini. It's fantastic, and makes you so grateful to be a free woman in the Western world. Brilliant and I'm only 1/3 the way through. Anyone else seen it?

Hi Annamarie, no, havent heard of the book you mention but it does sound a good read. Labour Weekend over here and I think I will limit my reading to light and fluffy stuff this weekend will match the grey and damp weather outside. Just read your letter Pamela re the Jamie and Claire books (Gabaldon) I think you have to start with the first book Cross stitch to appreciate the series. I think they appeal to me because of the early medicines, herbs, way of life...and they do have their humourous moments Bought a 'In Death' book for my daughters birthday thats coming up, had been given a book voucher so was the perfect chance to use it...spme of the latest cook books like 'First Catch your Weta' and Tony Simpsons A Distant Feast' I am hoping to ginf in the library....some wonderful photos in the latter book...

Hi all, Yvonne, not me who isn't in to Diana Gabaldon, I LOVE her books and buy everyone that comes out. I agree that you must read them in order though. Weather awful here too and as I have just finished my book I also will find something light and fluffy to read over the weekend.

Have read a few excerpts (spelling) but they just annoy me cause I want the whole bit..not tantalising bits and pieces! Not the best weather here today, must say I felt like the weather, dull and gloomy! Not even a walk helped.. perhaps tomorrow will be better, my begonia bulbs need planting out so might do that....

Lynda have some good news re the In Death series. Just read this on a newsletter that came in 'Salvation in Death and Suite 606, featuring "Ritual in Death," will both be in stores on November 4. (Maybe you can make them a reward for voting that day!) ' I guess we will see them in bookshops in a month or so later than that? Do you read Nora Roberts as well? I have read quite a few, the gardening series I enjoyed, Blue Dahlia, Black Rose and Red Lily...

Yes, it was I that couldn't get into Diana G - and I tried from the first book many many times. Really have given up.
I love Nora Roberts and JD Robb. I had to laugh I refused to read her books for ages and then got out Remember When or something like that she wrote as JD Robb and just loved it then found out it was Nora roberts herself and have been hooked every since. Have read virtually everything - even my husband said the other day as I was reading "Haven't you reall all those bloody Nora Roberts books yet? Every time I see you thats who you are reading!!!" I did laugh. I got a "in death" book out the other day that the girls at the library thought was the last one, but I have my suspicions and haven't checked it yet, but will ring and get them to order me the two you mention. The Salvation might be the one I had - I remember it started with an "S".
Have started reading her "Blood Brother" series and its a bit "pyshcic (?)" type stuff but doesn't worry me but a lot of people don't like.
Good reading. Reading Quicksand by Iris Johansen just now and had leant a Nora book to a friend though I was half way through and she gave it back today, so must finish it as its overdue.
