I have an over abundance of grapefruit that is starting to fall off the trees. I don't like marmalade and I am trying very hard to avoid the whole added sugar thing. Any bright ideas?

I also have had 16 avocados blow off the tree with the recent breeze that we had W00t Now they should all ripen over the next couple of weeks and that is way more than I can eat on my own. I already have three ready to eat. Has anyone tried mixing them with lemon juice and then freezing in ice cube blocks and if so how did it turn out?

Any suggestions will be considered. Smile

Avocados - I have friends with an avocado orchard. About this time of the year, they pick the lot and store them in a box beneath the stairs. Darkness seems to be the requirement, more than cold. They keep them for months. I think the other half of the trick is making sure they still have that little wooden knobbly bit attached. Once that is gone, you have no control at all over how/when/if they ripen.

Grapefruit - when we have too much citrus fruit, we squeeze the juice, and freeze it in portion sizes which we know we'll use. My daughter loves grapefruit juice, so it's usually a small glass that we use. Once they're frozen, we put them in a plastic bag. It really is a treat having a glass of grapefruit juice when they're not in season!

Thanks KG I will have another look at the avocados and see if I can try that with any of them. Lost most of them in the storm last year too. Cry

I have tried freezing some so will see how that works out too. I just mushed it up with some lemon juice and put it into ice cube containers.

The grape fruit are lovely and sweet so should be able to use most without too much sugar anyway. I hope.
