Isn't it great!! Vegetables taste so much better when they are really fresh.

I know a huge amount of people who have started a vege garden for the first time in the last two years. They are usually surprised at how easy it is and are then surprised at how much money they end up saving. The cost of a pack of seeds vs the cost of buying the vegetable ready to eat.

Not raining to day for a change so will have to go weed something, and catch up a bit.

Hi Ladies, havent had much time for the computer the past few days so just doing a quick skim of letters...do hope you enjoy the wedding next month Lynda, my relationship with my siblings is only marginally better than yours so can understand a little of the problems..pleased to say veg garden here is also growing great guns..bought some leeks on the weekend this will be the last (husband tells me) attempt at growing them..they always end up like spring onions so if anyone has any secrets on how to grow great leeks would love to hear them.. Smile

Have been trying kk recipes this week, Monday was the mince with sour cream and ,mushroom sauce (that was fine) last night chicken and kumera stir fry (no complaints there, did give daughter pasta instead of kumera) and tonight just beef and veg stew in the crockpot..
What did you think of the potato and cauli pie recipe KM?

Am still one kilo two hundred grams off last summers weight!  So little yet so much!  Once that goes will decide where to go from there..
Keep up the good work ladies, bye for now, Smile

The Cauliflower pie is really nice and very easy to make. Little miss fussy had a tummy bug andsince then has gone back to not eating Angry

She is a reflux kid so when she stops eating it take major effort to get her eating, so I make things she likes and that is one of them.

I have never grown leeks but I remember looking something up about them for a friend in the yates book I think, I can double check what it was if you like.

Thanks for the reply KM, we make a rtench, we water them in and they grow..but they dont grow big and fat!  Could be the soil, too much/little compost...I have a new Yates here will have a look and see if anything jumps out..I know of two others that also get leeks the size of spring onions so it must be a common problem (perhaps)

I may try that cauli pie..husband says low fat food is too bland so I have to pick and choose recipes..my fussy daughter doesnt like curry or spices..perhaps they could cook their own meals! Smile

Hope your little girl is back to normal eating soon...

Any luck with the leek problem Yvonne, I can check all my referrences if you like.

Last year I grew spring onions and they came out the size of leeks Smile ended up having to pull them out as we couldn't get through them fast enough  Confused Will be planting some more today along with some beetroot I think.

I have had a terrible strike rate on my carrots this year, so I might have to go back to planting them in toilet roll inners and see if that helps, and also the parsnips a bit later so that they are in over winter.
