Hi Pamela, Busy little beaver aren't you!!! What sort of classes do you teach? My snacks have to be planned on busy days and my day sort of goes egg, toast breakfast. If I have early breakfast as I do on Wednesday I sometimes have a little yoghurt or I do some baking of the slices and take those along as well. Do you have a proper lunch? Probably need to make sure you have your full allowance of protein and carbs at lunchtime and then have fruit that is maybe "two for one serve so you can spread it out a little. Thats what I do. i also take some vege snacks and with the garden - super toms, fresh cucumber. Bits and pieces like that. I like the lemony date slice and the ginger crunch so keep some in the freezer. Actually I just had some date slice now as I bought a salad from up the road and didn't like it and knew I was going to make a bad choice if I didn't do anything about it!!!
I have an "emergency lunch" which to many sounds weird, but I did an allergy test a few years ago and I took it with me every day just in case. It was rice crackers (wheat free of course) and 7 brazil nuts. Yeh, I know that sounds crazy but on the run and just wanting to fill the gap - it worked great! I used it at least once a week without fail and sometimes twice. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Yup busy as at times. I teach cardmaking to a group of elderly ladies. Have been teaching them twice a month for 6 years now. They stretch me at times and I have to set up tables etc before they arrive then pack them up and vacuum all the floors etc when they go and then put everything back in the car. I eat everything I am allowed and make sure I have something very substantial for my lunch on those days and have good snacks too. I also have just been volunteered to help at a church goodwill and have the same problem there. I fainted and gave them all a shock. Thankgoodness I felt myself going and managed to sit on a bench. I get extremely low blood sugars at times. Might have to look at overeating on those days and taking an extra sandwich. I am on the go solidly for about 4 hours having a good workout while I am at it. A piece of fruit just doesn't do it. Especially as I have breakfast at 6 then lunch at 12.30 when we finish. I had even had 2 pieces of loaf at goodwill, before the diet started. One lady takes 4 slices of bread made into sandwiches and has those at 9.30 - 10. She said the same happen to her. Will see what happens. Lovely and wet here today.

Hello Pamela I have a suggestion for you which has helped me through those days when I knew I would be using extra energy. I have found it useful to use baked potato or kumara for my carb. allowance because & I quote Caroline here, "Good idea to have the potato, or a kumara if you like them is even better.Lower GI so keeps the blood sugars more stable." I make little individual foil wrapped parcels & bake in slow oven. They can be included in a packed lunch as is or chopped up in a salad. I also include the full protein allowance. I find a little bag of chopped up carrot/celery/red capsicum kept in a pocket for nibbling handy also & because I consider tomatoes to be 'free' veges I pack several to eat at any time. For afternoon snacks I find a cuppa soup [low cal]and a couple of ryvita & also a piece of fruit spread out at intervals, help keep me going until dinner. At times for emergencies [when I know low blood sugar will be a problem] I pack a hard boiled egg & I always carry a barley sugar with me. I do hope I don't sound like a 'know it all'- I have not had a lot of time to correspond, so have not contributed to the forum until today but I do log in to see how you are all getting along & managing to include the weight loss programme into your everyday lives. It is all very comforting & helpful. My husband & I dance several times a week for 2-3 hour sessions - they are really good workouts & one can feel very light headed if not correctly fueled up - hence the reason I asked Caroline's advice.

Hi everyone, did a quick check last night to see what new recipes where posted yesterday and thought I must stop being so lazy and try and catch up on messages No bird problems here Lynda, we do get plenty of sparrow hawks floating by and noisy magpies otherwise not too much of a problem...before the housing was developed around us would see pheasants, hares and rabbits..still get the odd bunny hop through the yard..strangest thing was a quail.... You sound a very busy lady Pamela. If you have signed up with Caroline perhaps she can help you with the problem of snacks? The recommendation in Carolines Middle Age Spread book for an afternoon snack is either fruit then later a carb, fat, etc...or you can combine them making a snack such as a stuffed filo pastry, or 2 slices of fruit loaf, a muffin or slice of toast ..personally a couple of small biscuits does me or in winter a slice of toast...perhaps you need more than the recommended carb allowance? Sorry I cant help but I thought both Lynda and Dancer have some good suggestions there... Well ladies guess I had better get back to doing some work...have been very lax with trying to follow any sort of food plan myself lately. Start with great intentions, get plenty of exercise, stick to the allowed meals and snacks then as the evening progresses all turns to rubbish! I think this is why I havent been posting messages lately...excuses being, no time (not true)....havent anything to say (true )....embarrassed at not being able to stick to what I should be doing (true:-[ ).....having fought the fight and lost twenty six kilos and have only five or so to go it should be SO easy...but its not..this morning when I noticed yet a little more on the scales it made me angry with myself! Confession time over, am back to writing down all food I eat today and hope by bedtime can look back and be pleased with the way things have gone..if I cant shed these last few kilos the least I can do is maintain Thanks for listening, hope everyone has a good day, lovely and sunny here and much cooler which is great!

Hello Dancer and Yvonne, Thanks for the suggestions. Yes I do all the suggested things and Caroline has made suggestions too. The catch is it is in the morning that I crash not in the afternoon. It is the 6am breakfast then the 12.30 or 1 o'clock lunch. Will try having my fruit about 8.30 before class and before goodwill doors open, then have a sandwich with 1/2 protein at about 10.30 then just a salad with the other 1/2 protein at lunch and see how that works. Yvonne you have done so well and you should be so proud of yourself. The last bit is supposed to be the hardest so don't knock yourself up about it. You are exercising and being good most of the day. Just keep chatting to us for support. That is what we are all here for. To give and get support for exactly the same thing. That is why I signed up and have returned to chat with you all. I can't do it alone.

Thanks Pamela, ..I was wondering if you had a carb snack at 8.30 instead of fruit if that would help? Must be an awful feeling that you could pass out! Will check the books for that leek and potato pie Lynda...in haste....

Hi everyone, Good advice to Yvonne, Pamela ? just chat to us!! Couple of words like ?still doing it? ?struggling? and I bet the smallest contact helps. Well it does for me. You all re inspire me every time I log in, it certainly helps to have friends out there that know what yo mean!!
I wonder if that day you could use the extra carbs from dinner and make it a carb free night? I often have a potato or kumara salad with protein for lunch and its really filling.
You certainly have us all thinking Pamela. Oh Dancer - I wanna dance!!! have always wanted to dance and play the piano (not at the same time!!) but couldn't get husbands on a dance floor let alone to a lesson!! Oh well.... big sigh.... I can but keep wishing....
off to Taupo for the weekend for the HSV weekend (thats a Holden car thing - lucky me!!!) Husband cringes when people ask "what sort of car does your husband have" - "Red one with 4 black things on the corner". However, he was extremely impressed last year as I practiced all my jargon and listened intently (such a strain) to all he said and he heard me making intelligent conversation with someone I thought he was going to drop dead!!!! But I have forgotten it for this year and plus he has had more work done on it to zoop it up (he doesn't know I worked that out for myself - he really must think I'm blonde when I look at the cheque butts!!! $1000 for a car tune... I am nt that stupid!!)
But it is a good weekend and I can go shopping!

Whoops was Pamela wanting the recipe not Lynda,,you can tell the brains a bit scrambled..a friend just asked me about an approaching 60th birthday..had to stop and check the years..she was right, I will be 60..oh well, they say you are as young as you feel and I dont feel any different than a decade or two ago... Hi Lynda, yes, contact does help, I do need someone to touch base with....just getting tired with myself fluffing around and not getting on and doing the job! Its either lose it or maintain..no other way to go... I used to like dancing, even had ballroom dancing lessons many many decades ago..listening to Andre Rieu on a CD while writing this makes one feel like dancing Hope you enjoy your weekend away, my son used to race cars, nowadays with a young family the car spends most of its time in the garage covered up..I think its a holden..I do know its white with writing and stuff all over it Must find my shoes and go for a walk, now the weathers getting cooler will try for a few longer brisker walks with young Jack and leave his 13 year old mother Cassie at home..will not please her one little bit! Have one of the younger dogs in season at present so things are a little stressful... Hi kiwismum, how are things with you at present? Hope all is well with family and critters ..imagine you are very busy trying to cope with harvesting the garden..I turned five kilos of tomatoes into a basic mix for casseroles and stews the other day..trouble it there is now more than another five kilos needing something doing to it... Bye for now ladies, off for a walk...

Well wet wet wet here today. Don't really mind as it is a good excuse to settle in front of the fire with a book and the cats. They are there warming their tummies as I sit here on the computer. Not warm where the computer is but I need to touch base. I have set myself the aim to keep up the contact for support. Went out for lunch with the 'girls' yesterday and we went to the Thai restaurant. Yum and really not too far from the KISS plan. I had beef, veg and cashews (mmm okay cashews not great but yummy) with rice. It was fantastic and filled me up so I didn't need much for the rest of the day. We wnet shopping after and walked all over town several times. The others were clothes shopping and I was just there to offer advice. No new clothes for me until I shift some weight then only when I have nothing that fits. I am going to get rid of everything that gets too loose and not hang on to it in case. Not getting this size ever again. Been living on paninis for lunch at home lately. Have free frozen some bacon and get a slice out and grill it or today dry fried then put in mushrooms and shallots in the fat that came out and cooked them put all that in the panini with baby spinach, tomatoes and chutney and put in sandwich press and lunch. I also put in a WEE grating of cheese. Have a very fine grater and it is just a dusting. Really yummy on a cold wet day like today. Hope you are having a good weekend. Enjoy the party Yvonne have a piece of cake for us all. Lynda hope you have a blast in Taupo hitting the shops. I used to love Taupo when I lived in the Nth Is.

Well another day another gram or two down I hope. Been good. Had great plans and haven't done virtually any of them. Hubby is away for the day and I thought I would get all sorts of things done. But have cut up oranges and lemons to turn into marmalade tomorrow. No water again so the washing hasn't happened. He can fix that when he returns. Will try and achieve a few of the things I had planned today tomorrow instead. I really need to sit down and make a stack of cards for various things coming up. Just need the inspiration. Not even sure what is for dinner tonight yet. Got some sausages out of the freezer and am going to try one of the casseroles in one of the old books tomorrow night. Might even freeze the other serves for those busy nights. Hope you are all having a great weekend

After a very wet and windy Saturday today is calm and sunny..thank goodness..spent yesterday picking up broken tree bits, seeping up leaves and debris, and cutting back more of the dahlias that have fallen over in the rain...no walk Saturday far too wet but did manage one yesterday..so on the exercise front has been okay...during the day eating was fine but both the last two nights have seen a total collapse of good intentions... A new weeks so back on track again....was very good at the granddaughters party, had a glass of wine, a coffee and a small piece of ice cream cake...scale did show a 200 gram loss since I weighed last week so thats something.. Loved the sound of your bacon paninis Pamela...something I could do using bread but make an open sandwich of it...I used to love clothes shopping but now loath it..I think it has something to do with gaining weight and knowing how hard it is/was to find clothes that look good.. How was Taupo Lynda? If your weather was as bad as ours on Saturday I think shopping may have been a good option rather than watching the cars Better get back to work, just turned another five kilos of tomatoes into casserole bases for the freezer....the chilli sausage recipe is quite a nice one Pamela if you havent tried that one...bye for now...

Hi ladies. Back safe and sound from Taupo. I have to say most of the ghastly weather by-passed us which was great - I went prepared for the shocking weather but our view over the lake was impressive and I could see the mountains on the other side most of the day. It was pretty cool watching the weather come and go. I was most disappointed that my favourite shop there was closed for two weeks. Husband thought it was hilarious. It's the Copywright clearance shop and is just around the corner from their main shop. I did go in there and they had a good sale but I felt sorry for th boys standing out in the rain. I decided it was an omen that it wasn't really in my budget just at the moment!!! I did see one top I liked which was reduced to $130 but decided I didn't need it that much!!! I was very proud of myself. However, later in the day when the boys were out I considered walking back and looking, but I sat and ate instead - should have walked. I was in a bit of a mood - just really titchy. anyway, as I result I don't really want to weigh tonight! I was down on Friday morning and must admit I just deserve the gain. I wish I could break that "titchy" (or should that be something that rhymes with that) eating. I was so titchy at the dinner on Saturday night I pretended i was just going to the toilet and went back to my room and stayed there!!!! As a result I couldn't get the free double 3 day pass to the Hamilton V8s that my name was drawn out for!! I had meant to leave my ticket with son and when I got back to the room considered going back but just couldn't be bothered (and plus I don't want to go anyway) and thought "well don't usually win". Fortunately they had other draws through the night and one of the boys won double passes anyway!! I did quite a bit of walking around but have momentarily misplaced my pedometer. It was on my trousers the other day when I at home and I know I forgot to transfer it to my skirt when I came to work, but just can't find it, which is a bother!! I did find my favourite bra this morning that I lost 4 weeks ago so maybe my pedometer will turn up, otherwise I will get a new one - again!!!
Now Pamela, you might not want to hear this, but I think you are weighing online with Carolyn anyway - but she once told us that one panini is equivalent to over 3 breads!!! Maybe you need to check the label. my memory may be a bit older and not so good at remembering things, but suffise to say that once I heard that I never even tried one!!!

Oh, Pamela, just reread my thing about Paninis - I was rudely interrupted with work!!! I use pita bread instead and they are delicious toasted which I am glad I just said as I have stuff tomorrow I can put in a pita bread for lunch!! Just a suggestions. I often also split my pita bread and make it into little mini pizzas which I love but we don't have an oven at work.

Hi ladies, just back from a rather warm walk....sympathise with that titchy feeling Lynda..I think thats what gets me eating late at night but I think mine definietly begins with another letter $130 for a top..I can see why you left it there..sounds as though you had a good weekend and thats the main thing..and you never got the dreadful weather we had in Hamilton... You have just successfully put me off paninis I find if I turn my two slices of bread into two open sandwiches I feel like I am getting more to eat..still have the same protein just spread it between the two slices...may get more salad stuff doing it that way... Hope your weigh on goes well tonight...

Hello Ladies Well Lynda sounds as though your weekend in Taupo was a nice change and you even managed to save all that lovely money to spend somewhere else. Sorry to hear about the "titchy". I know that feeling sometimes. But you can moan to us we don't mind. Now with the paninis, no, they are 2 carbs but there are paninis and PANINIS mine are just paninis. If I wasn't losing weight I might be concerned but I lost 2.1kg at weigh in on Friday and have lost another 800g this morning when I got on the scales. So all good. Yvonne you were so good at the party. I had a bad night the other night and hit the biscuits. Hubby had opened a packet and left them beside me when he went to bed. I had got a packet of fancy things with only a few in the packet and I scoffed the lot that were left. Didn't even enjoy them or need them just seemed to inhale them. Well made marmalade this morning and have a line full of washing so am happy with that. Haven't looked at my card making things so maybe tomorrow for that. Will look at the chilli sausage recipe. I was going to try devilled saus. Will see. Need to go and get some rhubarb and cook that to have for breakfast. Love the stuff and it is doing well at the moment. Sick of the sight of plums.
